Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade

Item upgrade, commonly called "upping," improves an item's stats. Each upgrade increment results in an increase in the linearity of any stat.

Players can recycle six items at a time to get a gauge of each item's upgraded component. The cost of recycling items scales depending on their rarity and level.

Upgrade components

In Guild Wars 2, an upgrade of an item can be a method to increase the stats of your weapon and armor. This can be accomplished by a variety of methods such as using upgrade components or increasing the rarity or mark level. Many items can also be reforged in order to increase their value.

Upgradeable items are available throughout the game, both in the world and as rewards for missions. They can also be created by players. Upgrade components are the primary method to upgrade equipment. These are items that can slot into equipment. Most equipment has upgrade slots, and most require a certain level of upgrade. Some upgrade components give specific bonuses while others provide a general bonus.

There are a variety of upgrade components available in the game, including universal upgrades, inscriptions, and jewels. Universal upgrades, like gemstones and enchantments, can be put on any kind of equipment and offer lower bonuses than upgrades for specific equipment. Glyphs are only available in gathering tools. They offer a variety of bonuses, from increasing the speed at which an item gathers to supplying additional crafting materials.

Select the item in your inventory, and then open the Upgrade window. This will display an overview on the right side of the screen that shows the expected stats after the upgrade, along with any materials or components required. If you don't possess enough of either the upgrade button will say Blocked.

The upper-right corner shows the number of upgrade components required to create the specific item. The cost of an upgrade increases with the level and rarity of the item. However you can lower the cost by purchasing upgrades from a vendor, or trading them with other players.

Almost all weapons can be upgraded using the use of a prefix upgrade, such as an insignia or rune. Many are upgraded by an upgrade suffix. These upgrades alter the name of the item to add an adjective, for example 'Radiant' or 'Minor Vigor.' The exceptions are the non-inscribable wands, the shields and foci from Prophecies and Factions campaigns, which cannot be upgraded with any mods.

Glyphs

Glyphs can be used to convey information via visuals. They move to draw the attention of the viewer and stimulate curiosity. The animation of glyphs mimics body language, which makes them more effective in conveying a message across linguistic barriers. Glyphs also create a sense of familiarity in the brain, which increases retention of the message.

Each glyph comes with a range of values it can enhance a stat according to the item when you open the glyph in the Glyph Storage or when you use them to enchant an artifact. This is the highest value that a glyph could improve a stat by and not the amount it actually improves it by. The value of the glyph will depend on the tier and quality of the item you are admiring.

Most upgrade components inserted into items are not able to be replaced or salvaged without removing the gear in question, unless it is legendary equipment and upgrades. If you have a glyph or rune you do not want to use, but it hasn't been applied to gear yet, you can move the item upgrader to another piece by selecting the Upgrade Glyphs menu within the Glyphs Panel. This will create an Glyph Set that includes the chosen glyph.

You can remove a glyph by using a Black Lion Salvage Kit, or an Ascended Salvage tool. The item where the glyph is placed will be destroyed, but the upgraded item can be retrieved by removing the glyph fragments.

If you take an item off after putting a glyph on it, the shards of the glyph will disappear. You can also add an inscription to your equipment to add an extra benefit. Deferred Damage, for example can be used to store damage and then be dealt slowly to the wearer instead of all at once. This is helpful for players who take many hits from enemies, but don't want to be overwhelmed.

Reroll tokens

Reroll tokens allow players to alter the affixes they use on their equipment and weapons, and can be found through a variety of methods like mistery boxes, as a rare drop from skulled creatures, or even from killing bosses. Every reroll grants the player a random affix that is usually better than what they had prior to. Reroll tokens are also a good method to reroll the stats of a weapon and can be upgraded to provide better damage or other perks.

Items that have been rerolled may not appear in the upgrade menu, however, they still qualify to receive upgrades. These rerolled items are able to be recycled by pressing the "upgrade" button which alters the layout of the item window and allows up to six items to be selected to recycle. Recycling an item adds a small amount of points to its gauge of level. The amount is determined based on the item's rarity as well as its level. Thus, items with higher levels are more valuable to recycle than items with lower levels.

In addition to tokens for rerolls, players can make use of Star Remnants and Reroll Tokens to reroll the traits of a weapon in an upgraded unit. Rerolls are based on a % chance of a weapon's traits. If it rolls higher, then the weapon is upgraded. If it rolls lower, the weapon remains unchanged. Weapons can be upgraded up to 3 times.

Rerolling is an excellent way to upgrade an item. However, players must be aware that the total ilvl will be reduced by the number rerolls it took to get it to the final level. This effect of lowering is most effective for Diadems and rings, which have no competing ilvl-raising options.

Players have complained that the reroll system is expensive. It's better to allow people to pay for it with cash or food items which would allow players to make changes to their builds without having to invest too much time. However, paid rerolls are not something the developers want to implement at this time in the game's development. They're planning to include the ability for players to alter their race in the near future.

Leveling

There are several ways to upgrade an item. The most effective method to level up an upgrade to an item is to increase the amount of upgrade. This increases the upgrade value for the stat. The second option is to boost the effect of an upgrade, which increases the damage or healing of the stat. Additionally, there is the ability to upgrade the base item to a more powerful upgrade type. The upgraded item will keep its iLevel but be upgraded to reflect the effects of the upgraded item.

When you upgrade items, it is important to keep in mind that upgrades are random. Most of the time the Best item upgrade roll will come from the glyphs, however there are also chances for higher or more special rolls. In addition the iLevel of the upgrade will be determined by the item type, so if you upgrade a rare or unusual item to an extraordinary type it will have a chance to get an iLevel that is higher.

Upgrades can be costly, especially if you are upgrading equipment from the standard track to the legendary. The price will be based on the item's base iLevel and the amount of upgrade levels it has. Certain upgrade tracks require crests to be completed in order to move on to the next level.

If you're lucky your upgraded item will be at the highest level on its upgrade track, and will unlock an additional benefit. This will provide a significant increase in the value of the item. The bonus effect is different with each upgrade level. In general, the upgrade effect is increased by +3.

Based on the item's level of base and upgrade process, the iLevel for the upgraded item will also change. For example, a weapon that is upgraded from a rare or exclusive item to a rare or exceptional item upgrades will have a chance to be upgraded to the enhanced defense of the new base item type.
