WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the item level by +3. A random additional substat is also boosted alongside each upgrade.

Upgraded gear generally sees higher trade value as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or very high stat variance (like eth titan weapons). Upgrades are less useful for the latter because of the requirement to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade gear to a higher item level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapon. However, the item that is used to upgrade will remain in use for a long time and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enhancements.

The upgrader is located in all major cities and can be accessed at any time to upgrade your equipment. To keep your gear up-to-date it is recommended you visit the upgrader every several weeks.

The cost of upgrading will vary based on the current item level upgrade level of the item being upgraded but they will always be less expensive than purchasing new gear from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest up to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items which can be used to upgrade weapons, tools, armor, and other items. They can be purchased by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for a variety of currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any weapon, tool or armor. The button will display the item's next upgrade level in the event that there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot of the item and the current item upgrading level. For instance weapons are more expensive than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades give a discount on the Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain amount it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

A lot of locations offer upgraders for items, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon as well as the possibility of getting the latest recipe. The discount on upgrades increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. The NPCs who are able to facilitate upgrades are available only through a variety means. This is both a benefit and a disadvantage.

In Season 3, a number of new features have been added to the upgrade system. After a player has upgraded to a certain level of item for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same item level upgrade level, will cost less. This applies even if the items come from another set of gear.

The discount is available to all accounts. In the same way, the amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is also reduced and is not available until players achieve certain achievement milestones.

Crests

When upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a variety of options. Flightstones are an item that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests can only be spent on gear of a specific rank, and every rank has different requirements for upgrading. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade items requires up to 20 crests, contingent on the kind of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through completing content of the appropriate level, which means walking around and doing outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, raids or dungeons with any difficulty for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses to obtain endgame gear. These crests can be exchanged with an upgrader like Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and routes.

The new currency system isn't difficult to use, but it brings some changes to the process of upgrading. When a piece of equipment attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it will no longer require Flightstones. This change is intended to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest level possible on all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests wisely, as they only have one use. For instance it's best to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the best gear you have available, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan to make. This is particularly applicable to trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character that will be able to take advantage of the account-wide discount when all slots are filled with top-quality equipment.
